Why I don't Wear Makeup

>> PROVERBS 31:30
Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the Lord, she shall be praised.

I had a blog friend ask me if I wear makeup. I told her I didn't and explained a little about why I don’t. I thought I’d share it with the rest of you.

I never really wanted to wear makeup. I believe God made each of us beautiful just the way we are [We were made in his image].

Most everyone who wears makeup doesn't feel good about themselves and doesn't think they are beautiful. I have heard some girls say they use it to enhance the beauty God gave them. To me, that sounds kind of silly, because you are basically saying God didn't do a good enough job and you want to be more beautiful then He made you. Yeah, He made me pretty, but not pretty enough, so I think I’ll add a little makeup.

When you wear makeup, what are your intentions behind it? Could you honestly say by wearing makeup you are trying to draw attention to Christ? As Christians, we are to point others to Him, and not ourselves.

I know we [as girls] all have a desire to look nice. We want to feel + look pretty. But God has made everything beautiful in His time {Ecclesiastes 3:11a}. God doesn't make mistakes. The best thing to do is to except the way God made you and don’t compare yourself to others. You may not have bright blue eyes like Sarah, or dirty-blonde hair like Mary, but you are YOU! God made you unique and beautiful just the way you are!

Also, we should be more concerned about inner beauty. God doesn't look on the outward appearance, but on the heart {1 Samuel 16:7b}. Having a pure heart, mind, and soul is far more valuable than outward beauty.

I am not trying to judge you or anything if you wear it. These are just some things I whole-heartedly believe and am trying to live out.

What are your thoughts on makeup?
Are you enjoying Spring?

>> PSALM 139:14
I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made:
marvelous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.

  1. Thanks for sharing Tashia! God made us all special and beautiful without the use of makeup. The verse you have at the top is true! ~ PROVERBS 31:30 Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the Lord, she shall be praised.

"2 Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is. 3 And everyone who has this hope in Him purifies himself, just as He is pure." (1 John 3:2-3)

  4. Great post Tashia! I guess I can say I agree with you 99% on everything you said! I also do not wear makeup because after a while you feel like you have to put it on whenever you go somewhere, and are constantly having to look in a mirror to see if you need any 'touch-ups" ! Also: just not practical. ;) -Rebekah

  5. Hi Tashia! You did an excellent job writing this post. While I respect other girls' convictions to not wear make up, I do wear it. I wear minimal cover up to conceal my acne problem, and to direct people's eyes to mine when they look at me. I see it as enjoying the beauty God gave me.

But, great job with this post! I admire you for standing up for your beliefs. I love when Christians learn how to show love to each other despite their differences of conviction. ;) It's all about Christ, and how we can best glorify Him.

    Blessings,
    Annie

  6. Lovely post. I think it's true, too...but...
I wear make up. Only BB cream and powder. But for ONE reason only. I have really bad skin, and I'm trying to work on it, but now and then I use make up to try and make my face look a little less gross. I always said I was never going to wear make up, but my skin got so bad, and now I do, just to make it look a little better while I'm going through this stage. But that is the only reason I wear any make up. My skin upsets me, but I feel a little better and less gross when I have make up on. I believe one day I won't have such bad skin and I won't want to wear make up.
    Thanks for the great post!
And I just wanted to say thank you so much for the comment on my blog, and for praying for my little brother. ♥
