When thinking about my word for 2016, I wasn't really sure what it would be. Then God showed me a verse in Luke 8 which says:
"No man, when he lighted a candle, covereth it with a vessel, or putteth it under a bed; but setteth it on a candle stick, that they which enter in may see the light." [verse 16]
It made me think of how our lives are to be lights, pointing others to Christ. We need to shine wherever we are. Not only in our homes, but also when we go out into the world. What good is a candle when we hide it's light? It's the same with our spiritual lives: we shouldn't be afraid to share what God has done for us.
Don't shine so that others can see you. Shine so that through you others can see HIM.
I think this quote is pretty self-explanatory. And a good reminder for each of us.
"Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven." [Matthew 5:16]
So, I'd say my word for 2016 is LIGHT.
I pray that throughout the year I can learn how to shine His light better.
{what is your word for 2016? what made you choose it?}
What a great theme!
ReplyDeleteYou've probably seen it on my blog...my word is HOPE! I came to cherish it over the last few months when I was really struggling physically, and there were several relationships in my life which were crumbling to pieces, and also I was frustrated with one of my jobs. God assured me over and over that I still had HOPE in Him, an anchor to hold my heart fast when I didn't feel strong enough to carry on.
Have you ever listened to Danny Gokey's song, "Hope in Front of Me?" The chorus says, "There's Hope in front of me / there's a Light, I still see it / there's a hand still holding me / even when I don't believe it / I might be down but I'm not dead / there's better days still up ahead / even after all I've seen, there's Hope in front of me"
Yes, I have heard that song, Hannah! Love it!
DeleteHannah,
DeleteYes, I saw your post- it was beautiful! I haven't heard that song, but will defiantly look it up! :)
Thank you for the comment!! ♡
Lovely theme,
ReplyDeleteAt the beginning of this year HOPE was (also) my word, hope for a future that nobody thinks is worth hoping in, hope for those who have gone so far, and hope for me.
But when I read your question "what is you're word" COURAGE immediately came to mind, so I guess I'll have to pray about it :)
xoxo
Leah
Thank you, Leah! I pray God can show you wonderful things through the words you chose!
DeleteGreat choice, Tashia!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Paige! Did you pick a word for 2016?
DeleteYour welcome!
DeleteUgh, that is so hard! I still have to think on it! There are so many words! WHICH ONE! :O :D :p
Tashia,
ReplyDeleteLIGHT is such a wonderful word... I can tell you already shine for Him so I know He will teach you wonderful things this year about being a LIGHT to to world. I cannot wait to see what God teaches both of us this year. I chose "Pray" because I know a stronger prayer life will help me have more joy, be a brighter light, and so much more. So excited for you and for what we both will all learn through our individual words!
Love ya!
Rebekah
Aww, thank you, Rebekah!! You are so sweet! ♡
DeleteI cannot what to see what God teaches both of us through our individual words, too!
Love you, too! ♡
Light, I love that word. As I'm sure you have seen already I am a big fan of Living Waters/The Way of the Master and they have so many excellent books on sharing your faith and great gospel tracts for passing out when you're in a hurry. This is a new idea to me (picking out a word for the year) and so I am still deciding between a couple different words. I think it's a wonderful idea and your choice is a great one. I've been enjoying the pins you're pinning to your new "being the light" board on Pinterest too. Blessings as you are learning + shining for Him!
ReplyDeleteSounds neat, Ashley! I'd love to hear if you picked a word for 2016. :)
DeleteLove you!! ♡
That's an awesome choice for a "one word"! (And beautiful pictures, too, btw, with lovely golden *light* :))
ReplyDeleteThank you, Elizabeth! ♡
