10 books i want to read in 2017

As I was thinking about different things I'd like to accomplish in 2017, a stack of books hiding in my bed room came to mind. If you know me well, you know that I tend to take several months {err, years} to actually read and finish a book. And I tend to start more than one book at a time {can anyone else relate to this?!}.

So I thought it would be a good idea to actually finish some of the books I started last year and read some new ones that I've heard about. Sometimes reading can be hard for me to actually focus and stick with it, but I truly love learning and being encouraged by what the authors have to share.

Here is my list of books to read in 2017:
1. Trust or Control by Dorcus Stutzman

2. Crazy Love by Francis Chan

3. Don't Waste Your Life by John Piper

4. A Young Woman's Walk with God by Elizabeth George

5. Girl Defined: God's Radical Design for Beauty, Femininity, & Identity by Kristen Clark & Bethany Baird

6. Lies Young Women Believe: And the Truth that Sets them Free by Nancy Leigh DeMoss & Dannah Gresh

7. True Woman 101 - Divine Design by Mary A. Kassian & Nancy Leigh DeMoss

7. Sacred Singleness by Leslie Ludy

8. A Place of Quiet Rest by Nancy Leigh DeMoss

9. Choosing Gratitude by Nancy Leigh DeMoss

10. Uninvited: Living Loved When You Feel Less Than, Left Out, And Lonely by Lysa Terkeurst

I'll probably add more to the list.

Please tell me if you'd heard of or read any of these books! What are your thoughts on them? What are some of your favorite books/authors? Also, do you have any kind of reading plan that helps you get books read faster?

  1. Our youth girl's Sunday school class just went through a study of Crazy Love. I think it's a very worthwhile and challenging book that emphasizes full commitment/surrender to God, and also how amazing His love really is. =) I've heard of a few of the others but Crazy Love is the only one I've read...

  2. I've read Crazy Love, Don't Waste Your Life, and Choosing Gratitude....all of which largely shaped my view of God, my personal relatioship with Christ and commitment to living out the Word every day. You'll really be challenged by them!! Great choices!

  4. I've read a Young Woman's Walk With God and enjoyed it. For me personally, the Young Woman books by Elizabeth George aren't that "deep," though.
I've heard of Girl Defined and Choosing Gratitude and want to read them both! :) Could you possibly give us review on the books as you finish them? ;)

  5. I noticed you only have non-fiction books on your list (some of which I've read or want to read). Just curious though, do you read fiction?

    1. I read some fiction, but not a whole lot. I'm not a huge reader, so a book has to be really interesting for me to read it. :) Most times when I read I want to learn/be encouraged so that's why I read non-fiction books. :)
Two of my favorite fiction series are "Angels Walking" by Karen Kingsbury and "The Viking Quest" series by Lois Walfrid Johnson.

    2. Okay. Well I've actually learned and been encouraged by lots of fiction books. :) But I guess if you don't really like to read than it makes sense to read very select books that you'd enjoy.

  6. Sacred Singleness is one of the best books I've ever read! I think you'll really enjoy it! Crazy Love and Lies Young Women Believe are great as well. :)

  7. Thanks for sharing your list, Tashia! I am *almost* finished with Lies Women Believe and it is SO good. (You'll have to let me know you like the young women one!) I'm also reading Wrestling Prayer by Eric & Leslie Ludy and have a bunch more in-progress ones that I'm slowly working through. I sent out a text at the beginning of the year for recommendations from close friends, compiled it in a list, and that has been helpful to refer to! Much love! ♥

  8. Reading is cool. :) *thumbs up* Best wishes on your 2017 reading goals.

"Lies Young Women Believe" is pretty good. I have "Choosing Gratitude" on my LONG to-read list. :)

I found it interesting what Sour Cream Girl said: "For me personally, the Young Woman books by Elizabeth George aren't that "deep," though." I have to agree. Many (most?) books written to specific genders (especially books for young women--of which I've read many) fall into that category. Other categories they often fall into are inaccurate Bible interpretation and fallacious personal soap-boxes. In other words, authors want to make a specific point so they proof-text (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prooftext) the Bible to support their ideas, rather than examining the ideas of Scripture itself.

Oops... sorry it that got a little wordy. :D ^^^

On another note, what are some of your favorite movies? I am always looking for movie suggestions from other Christians. (I'm kind of picky about what I watch.)
