four tips on setting goals.

Setting goals can be fun, but also overwhelming. I used to set too many goals for myself and would get discouraged when they never got done. I realized I need to set less goals for each day.

Now I have a list of things I want to get done in the next couple of days/weeks and pick one a day. This may sound crazy and like I'd have a lot of extra time, but lately with school, chores, and normal life, I'm happy to just get one goal done a day!
School is always first on my list. Once done with that, I work on chores/house work, then tackle my goals. Some goals may take time to get done, so I try to do other things in between.

Here are 4 tips on setting goals:
[1] - Make Jesus your first priority. The first thing I do each morning is pray + read my Bible. This really helps to get my day started off on the right foot. It also gives me something to think about throughout the day. Ask Him about goals He wants you to set.
[2] - Don't set too many goals a day. Like I said above, that can be overwhelming and discouraging. Start out with a few goals and work towards more. (This will all depend on whether you are setting daily/weekly or monthly goals. If monthly, or even yearly goals, you can set more than if you would for a day/week.)
[3] - Make it fun. If you have a big project or are feeling like all you are doing is working on goals, take a break. Make some coffee or tea to sip on while you work. Listen to some instrumental music. Talk to God while you work.
[4] - Don't get discouraged! If you feel like you have so many things that need accomplished, don't panic! Pray and ask God for help in multiplying your time or help in getting the most important goals done first.
I hope this is a little helpful in setting goals and getting them done. Remember that goals aren't always important. We may need to take a break at times and encourage that hurting friend or spend time with a sibling. Don't loose sight of what is most important in your life.

{do you think this post was helpful? would you like to see more posts about this? did you set any goals for this month/year?}

I need to set more goals for myself.
I also pray every morning. I ask the Lord to show me His will, and that it will be done! I have noticed that it really helps me to be in a good mood.

  5. LOVE these tips! I definitely have a problem of writing down too many things for one day! Watching a little boy at my house means I have a lot of free time at home but I am limited in what I can do... and there are lots of interruptions when caring for a little boy! So, the less I plan the easier it is to get everything done without getting discouraged!
    Thanks for the tips :)

  6. I love this post. :) The photos, the layout, the topic...

In her book The Fifteen Minute Organizer, Emilie Barnes mentions breaking down overwhelming tasks into smaller tasks. Sometimes that can help motivate us and it gives us a sense of satisfaction when we can cross more things off of our list simply because they're more manageable.

I appreciated what you said about talking with God while we work. While I was vacuuming today I got to thinking about how I can make my time count. How can I seize the moment? God gave it to me, how can I make the best use of it? He says we're supposed to do everything for his glory, vacuuming doesn't feel that glorifying... Besides, it's kinda boring. One of my least favorite chores actually and I'd rather get it done quick and out of the way. But can I make this time count too? I'm usually already singing (it's just something I do while I sweep and since the vacuum's loud I can sing louder too and it doesn't bother anybody) but, hmm, in this moment I can also pray for a friend who's going through a hard time. After a while, I'm actually turning my prayers into songs...and no one knows it because the vacuum's so loud. :)

As for post suggestions, maybe you could share about motivation and procrastination? Procrastination is usually a pretty big issue and there's all sorts of reasons why we do it!

One of my goals for quite a while was to finish a certain drawing for a friend. I kept putting it off because it was really hard and I didn't want to mess it up. Reminds me of the quote I saw on another artist's blog: "Perfection is the enemy of completion". After around a year and two attempts at it, I'm happy to say it is finally crossed off my list and in the mail!

Thanks for this encouraging post, Tashia, and now I'm off to finish cleaning my room! :)

I like what you shared about breaking overwhelming tasks into smaller ones. And yes, it's defiantly satisfying when we can cross things off our lists! ;)
Yes. That's something I'm working on, singing or praying while i sweep, clean, bake, etc.
Thanks for the post suggestions. I'll defiantly think about them. :)
I can totally understand procrastination. I think everyone struggles with that! :/
I'm glad you liked this post!! ♡
